Wheelchair friendly? Yes, no problem!

This month one of my tours involved designing a three day itinerary: I would be guiding a married couple in their 80s both of whom with mobility issues. Working alongside my London driver guide colleague Glen Portch, the tour was a great success as I had carefully and thoughtfully curated a fully accessible tour. Being in their 80s with mobility issues was no problem on my tour. Seeking out the best places for views, lunch, and an ample serving of culture, it was an honour for us to go the extra mile, ensuring their trip was trouble-free. Even when they surprised me one morning by saying they needed new "comfortable" socks I knew exactly where to take them...
I was a volunteer guide for a couple of years at the Wordsworth Grasmere museum which is adjacent to Dove Cottage and it really is an inspiring place to visit. Before I became a qualified Blue Badge Tourist Guide I must confess I knew little about literature other than what I needed to learn in my schooldays in order to pass exams. The museum was one of the exam sites for my tourist guide exams and so I got to know it in-depth and now I love to take people there so they can see Wordsworth's old ice skates, the china teacup and saucer his sister Dorothy bought when she couldn't even afford a kettle. The original artworks in the museum are breathtaking - giving an insight into the landscapes of the Lake District.
There are many places you can visit whether you are fully mobile or have disabilities - it would be my pleasure to ensure you have a wonderful holiday in the Lake District.
